The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone Doc Gets Manchester Premier With Band

Manc legends The Stone Roses have been pretty busy since their reformation last year. Lucky for us, This Is England mastermind and ace Brit director Shane Meadows was there to capture their monumental return in all its Northern glory. Today, we’ve finally received word that his hotly tipped documentary The Stone Roses: Made of Stone will make its worldwide debut in the heart of Manchester on May 30th. The choice to unveil this no-holds-bar rockumentary in our Northern capital feels rather apt – it’s a Northern no-brainer and the perfect love letter to the city from a band who are built into its urban foundations. While the location of the screening is yet to be announced, we do know that the band will be in attendance to oversee the handover of the film to eager music fans. They’ll be joined by producer Mark Herbert and director Meadows who will conduct an ambitious Q&A with the attendees of over 100 cinemas nationwide via satellite link.

The Manchester premier screening will be linked to these venues as part of a blanket preview, allowing viewers to quiz Shane Meadows in person at the live event  or from around the country via Twitter. Tickets for both the premier and the numerous linked screenings across the UK will go on sale soon. What’s more, a select few attendees of last year’s Warrington Parr-Hall and Heaton Park gigs who are featured in the doc will receive free tickets to the premier. Images of the lucky so and sos will be posted on the band’s Facebook and Twitter pages in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled.

The Stone Roses: Made of Stone boasts unprecedented access to previously unseen archive footage and chronicles the band’s history, long-awaited return and rehearsals for their reunion shows including their mammoth Heaton Park hometown stints. Meadows also promises to present the voice of all those affected by the music and reflect the huge importance the band has had on die-hard fans. “Making this film, I got to be part of something truly remarkable, the double decade awaited ‘resurrection’ of my all time favourite band, The Stone Roses. People say that you can’t recapture your youth, it’ll never be the same second time round etc, but that’s utter rubbish,” explains Meadows. “The Roses were never allowed to reach their peak first time around so as far as I and millions of fans around the world were concerned, with this comeback the Roses could be even greater. This film isn’t a history lesson, nor is it a two hour concert film. It is a film about defying the odds, sticking it to the man and telling the cynics to shut their pie-holes!”

The Stone Roses: Made of Stone will go on general release on June 5th.
