NEWS: Major Lazer To Play HMV Ritz

The Diplo and Switch collaboration, Major Lazer, is all set to bring warm Jamaican influenced Dancehall-beats to Manchester’s frost-bitten streets. As part of a five-date UK tour the city’s HMV Ritz will be first stop. Tickets go on-sale today and are £14.

Diplo is the alias of Wesley Pentz, a Philadelphia-based producer who has previously worked with M.I.A. While making beats for her he met British producer and DJ, Switch. The two worked together on M.I.A’s Grammy nominated hit, Paper Planes – widely recognised as being part of the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack.

 As Major Lazer the duo got together with Jamaica’s established artists, plus well-known acts in the UK , to create a multi-cultural dance-floor melting pot. The resulting Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do proved a huge success and plans are underway to follow it up in spring 2012.
