Why We Love… The Albert Hall Manchester

Originally a Grade II listed Wesleyan chapel in Manchester City Centre, Manchester’s Albert Hall has been host to the most exciting events in the North for years, including stints from the likes of Beck, Sam Smith and Tame Impala.

As well as being a beautiful building with its original stained glass windows still intact and its striking clock tower that can be seen from various spots around Deansgate, the Albert Hall is renowned too for its club nights and events, for those who prefer a party-all-night kind of scene. Next door sits the infamous Albert Schloss bar and restaurant which boasts an impressive choice of alcohol and German themed cuisine, as well as the odd drag night and cabaret events – all more classy than they sound!

Coming up in the next few months the Albert Hall will be host to James Bay on 30th May, The Magic Gang on 27th September and Manchester legends Peter Hook & The Light on 29th September, along with more Bongo’s Bingo events than you can drunkenly shake a bingo card at. It’s also an original venue for October’s annual Neighbourhood Festival, which this year includes indie Everything Everything and Sundara Karma. On top of this, the chapel layout of the venue makes for an exceptional place to see live music, as the open space on the ground floor and slightly elevated stage, along with a set back balcony area that covers over half of the upper floor perimeter, means every person in the hall can see the stage, and the immense sound created by the acoustics of the room is really something to behold.

Manchester’s Albert Hall is more or less the perfect place to lose yourself either to your favourite band or as part of a night on the town, with its comforting atmosphere and beautiful features it allows audiences to feel like they are part of something and see their favourite artists in an ethereal performance with the stunning windows and shapes as their backdrop. This venue is certainly a dazzling jewel in Manchester’s crown of world class musical sites, and just a stone’s throw away from three of the city’s train stations, how could you not pay it a visit?
